Joseph W. Moon was the driving force behind the Moon Motor Car Company. The Moon Motor Car Company had a reputation for making well designed and fashionable automobiles from 1905 to 1930. Moon automobiles had aluminum bodies with rich finishes. They were also the leader in closed bodies by 1908. By 1909 all Moon cars were equipped with self starters.


The Moon Motor Car Company was one of the first American automobile company’s to build dual cowl cars, cars with hydraulic brakes and balloon tires. Production in 1906 was 45 cars and by 1913 1540 cars were produced. The company’s peak production was 13,000 cars in 1925. In the 1920s its square Rolls-Royce like radiator was a distinguishing feature.


In the beginning The Moon Motor Car Co. built cars with small four cylinder engines that developed no more than 30 horsepower. It wasn’t until 1913 that a six cylinder engine was provided in the Moon cars. The Moon touring car shown above was equipped with a six cylinder engine that was rated at 70 horsepower.


In 1924 The Moon Motor Car Co. produced roadsters, touring cars, sport touring, coupes, sedans and sport sedans. Six cylinder engines rated at 50 and 58 horsepower were used in these cars. In 1928 Moon introduced the Aeroype model 8-80. A straight 8 engine rated at 85 horsepower were used in these Moon cars.
